About Us

Our goal is always to offer a combination of wardrobe staple fabrics and more fashion-forward pieces to mix-and-match with closet favorites. At the core of our selection, we offer a wide variety of classic fabrics that garment sewers look to for staples in their handmade wardrobes. These include favorite linen blends, denims, pontes, and so much more.

Each spring and fall, we also look to the latest fashion trends and colors from the runways and ready-to-wear for inspiration as we put together our seasonal collections of garment fabrics. Our fabric sourcing takes us to various trade shows as well as the garment districts in Los Angeles and New York City to find designer deadstock fabrics and other stand out fabrics from the world's leading textile manufacturers.

We work to select the highest quality fabrics and carefully consider how each will be used, how easy it is to work with, and its overall performance. Customers can shop by trend, color, fabric type, or garment type allowing sewists to find just the right fabric, whether they know what they are looking for or are in the mood to sew/create and need a bit of inspiration.

Our curated selection of products continues to evolve to meet the needs of our incredible customers. Recent additions include the option to add matching thread to any fabric, a collection of designer buttons, and essential notions such as sewing machine needles, elastic, and interfacing.

Along with all of the essential notions and tools garment sewers look for, we also offer a wide selection of printed patterns created by independent (or indie) designers from all over the world. From the modern designs of Australia's Tessuti Pattern to the effortless style of Canada's Closet Core Patterns, shoppers will find the latest indie designs and suitable fabrics to pair with them for quick and easy shopping.

Besides keeping our shop well stocked with favorite fabrics, notions, and patterns, we also hope to inspire our customers and their passion for sewing. From our shop's organization to the ideas we post on social media, we hope to share unique ideas, useful tips, and other sewing content that will challenge sewers to try something new or take their love of sewing to the next level.

Highlights of our year include our Spring and Fall Style Tours, where we partner with sewists of all sorts to create a seasonal looks using fabrics from our latest collection. Watch for new Style Tours to kick off each March and September around the first day of the season.

In late 2019, our business made an exciting expansion to include a retreat center, Makers Hideaway. With room for ten makers to eat, sleep, and create, we look forward to hosting many amazing groups of sewists and makers! Interested in planning your own stay? We are very much a small business! Day-to-day there is usually just a few of us taking care of things behind the scenes—our co-owners and a few dedicated part-time employees. From answering customer emails and packing orders to selecting new fabrics and updating the website, our small but mighty team cares of it all. That often means lots of long hours, late nights, and working weekends, but it is worth every minute. We take great pride in being a source for quality fabrics, notions, and patterns that our customers can count on, and we so appreciate their support of our small business!

Michelle (co-owner)

Michelle manages all things technology. She is responsible for all our beautiful photography and keeping the online shop updated with the latest new arrivals. You'll usually find her taking care of things around the shop during the day and in front of the computer late into the night answering emails and ordering notions! When she isn't taking care of Style Maker business, she is wrangling labradors, tending her garden, or trying out a new recipe. Oh, there might be some sewing mixed in there, too!

Sharon (co-owner)

Sharon manages our inventory, from product sourcing to handling all the data. She organizes our buying trips (when we can travel!), requests samples, and manages the logistics of placing orders and receiving shipments. She also tends to get buried in the numbers when keeping track of inventory! In her free time, Sharon enjoys traveling to new places, sipping a glass of wine, and escaping into a good book.
